The current implementation goes thru an optimizing C compiler as backend for "shipping/production" builds, which will limit how fast we can make it compile.

That said, during development/iteration/testing, you can just the built-in JIT, which is based on libtcc (which is very fast), as don't as you don't mind a ~3x runtime slowdown.
