Show HN: Freehire, open-source search 3M+ tech jobs from company career boards

3 days ago (freehire.me)

freehire is a filterable, job board aggregator, job tracker, and AI-assisted resume tailoring tool. Saving your skills and preferences changes which jobs appear and how your resume gets tailored. I've looked at a lot of these solutions over the years and found it really hard to find the right mix of tools in an open-source offering.

I've contributed to a few issues now and worked closely with the maintainer. I've watched this evolve over the last few months. I feel it's ready for everyone to check out and stress test.

Did you have to get agreements from the employers or their platforms to permit crawling these? Many companies forbid this in legal terms on their sites, or through robots.txt or Cloudflare challenges, etc.

The user-auth is confusing as there is no sign-in button. It was very unclear what to do as a first-time user. This concept is dope. Then the app wouldn't let me see the Req until I uploaded my CV and answer questions. I would prefer it to start the user onboarding directly after sign-up. I just think it would be a better UX experience.

How do u really manage to dudup the same posting in a reliable way? I feel like it's really annoying to sort things out from various sources even though from the job board. What's more valuable maybe the internal source? Idk

  • My engineering experience, Claude, the right guardrails, and not being afraid to vibe-code. Plus a lot of observability and alerts, and a lot of feedback from users. Honestly, things break all the time, but they get fixed fast, and the system keeps evolving and growing

I love the approach and the filters. Very well done. I will also try the MCP.

  • what i notice is that many job descriptions are marked as open even if they are actually closed.

Also, apparently, there is a but if confusion with Europe/UK (probably dued to the fact that UK people has not decided yet what to do)
