I have doubts that this is suitable as a generalized statement like that.

Ignoring specifics, the corp offers a package because they want you to take it. That means that you taking it is in their best interest.

It might also be in your own best interest, but it might also not be. That's something that needs to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis

It really depends on who it's being offered to - if it is literally EVERYONE you need to evaluate it on a case-to-case, but if it's a small targeted group, you probably should take it.

Also if you're a manager you should be able to make it pretty clear.

  • A lowly line manager is not going to have any actual visibility into the VP-level machinations that decide the size and scope of layoffs.

But if they have half a clue they'll still be able to figure out which way the wind is blowing.

Source: a lowly line manager who has seen and survived a number of these.

The interests might be aligned albeit for different reasons. A corporation laying off a huge number of employees is facing reputational damage or regulatory consequences. That doesn’t mean you gain any benefit from their pain. Maybe you could sue for wrongful termination and keep your job?

I had doubts too, but it is in ALL CAPS so it must be true?
