Asking kids to push your political goals under the guise of “education” feels pretty icky.

This isn't [pro|anti] [biden|trump|abortion|guns|vaccines|facemasks|etc].

Its kids deciding for themselves about the world they want to live in and what features they want in it. Buildings last ~100 years and most likely they are going to live in a home that was built in the past. If they want modern features or amenities without spending a fortune rebuilding the house, its best to future proof.

Building codes are how people went from defecating outside (not the best idea) to thinking about public health and spread of infectious diseases to building indoor bathrooms and plumbing. Once people figured out this is a slightly better way of living, it made into building code.

There are apartments being built today in major metro areas of Asia, they look very fancy, but they don't have a carve-out for a fridge, washer/dryer or a dishwasher. These are concrete homes that people will live in for a long long time. Everyone will eventually need these appliances, but your trade-offs are a significantly worse aesthetic home with all these appliances plugged in your living area or do without them. There was a recent post about white women being racist and not adopting washers immediately, because they have maids. But there is another explanation, old homes are not built with a place for water and electric hookups and a designated space where it goes in. We can see the same phenomenon in Asia now, almost all households in India have a maid to do the clothes, dishes, etc. A machine is far more reliable, higher quality, and cheaper. But there is no designated space, hookups or outlets.

The next generation of kids are going to deal with different challenges. They can't rely on the demographic ponzi scheme, the growth will stop. Building anything new will stop and rentier capitalism will extract the rents from very very old homes for a very long time. See the housing stock in London, (half of it Victorian, 25% from 1900 - 1929, 34% 1930 - 1949). London, the HQ of British Empire, the seat of capitalism for centuries has expensive and old homes. You can also see multi-million dollar very very old homes in bay area and almost any metro. If you are pro defecating outside, anti-electricity, and pro-pollution (air pollution kills 10M/year - nytimes), I don't know what to tell you. These are things that all humans everywhere have to deal with, not political positions.
