I would have found it a lot more impressive if they just empowered scientists through some kind of grant rather than to internalize all this. It sets the tone for what's to come and inevitably if what they find is juicy enough it will not be published. For instance once they start working on materials science (if they aren't already).
Surely they’re under some kind of NDA with Defence with regards to material science and physics, and required to hobble the publicly available models.
Why would you think that? Is a privately held company.
