Indeed, flagging should be disabled for any post with more than like 50 upvotes.","comments":[{"id":50281795,"user":"cowlevel","time":1793226312,"time_ago":"5 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

Then you'd see the opposite - you'd see brand new attack posts with 51 upvotes and no comments.","comments":[{"id":50282183,"user":"slowin","time":1793228496,"time_ago":"5 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

Sounds better than flagging a post people are interested in.","comments":[{"id":50282246,"user":"nekusar","time":1793228914,"time_ago":"5 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

I was looking more at quantity of posts, and not as much upvotes.

But nope, my original comment is flagged. Le sigh.","comments":[{"id":50282275,"user":"slowin","time":1793229095,"time_ago":"5 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

Yes, I agree. Posts with a lot of comments should also not be flagged. Maybe that's an even better metric. I don't know why your comment was flagged, it seemed pretty reasonable to me!","comments":[{"id":50282680,"user":"blooalien","time":1793232123,"time_ago":"4 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

Sometimes a lot of comments on a post are a sign that the post was extremely interesting and has generated equally interesting discussion, and sometimes it's entirely the opposite signal; said post was a "trigger" topic generating a pointless flame-war that nobody in their right mind wants to read or participate in. The numbers alone aren't the whole picture, but only a small detail that signals something is happening there. This is one of those situations where LLMs/"AI" (love/hate it) could actually be a huge help, classifying particularly "active" posts into useful "buckets" by type.","comments":[{"id":50283005,"user":"slowin","time":1793234857,"time_ago":"3 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

Except for all of the people commenting and up voting! There's zero downside to turning off flags there. If you don't want to read it or participate, you don't have to.

The culture of having active discussions killed is way more frustrating and discouraging.","comments":[{"id":50283154,"user":"cowlevel","time":1793235814,"time_ago":"3 hours ago","type":"comment","content":"

If 100000 people want to cast an argument into the void, they can do that. It doesn't harm any other discussion going on elsewhere on the site. I'm posting this comment beneath a flagged/dead comment in an article labeled [dupe] and I'm okay with that.","comments":[],"comments_count":0,"level":7,"url":"item?id=50283332"}],"comments_count":1,"level":6,"url":"item?id=50283154"}],"comments_count":2,"level":5,"url":"item?id=50283005"}],"comments_count":3,"level":4,"url":"item?id=50282680"}],"comments_count":4,"level":3,"url":"item?id=50282275"}],"comments_count":5,"level":2,"url":"item?id=50282246"}],"comments_count":6,"level":1,"url":"item?id=50282183"}],"comments_count":7,"level":0,"url":"item?id=50281795"}],"comments_count":8,"url":"item?id=50281564"}
