My new years resolution for 2026 was to quit using 3rd party delivery companies. It was annoying at first but I've kept it and life is better without them.

Agreed; I look back in horror at how much I spent on delivery fees and tips in my 20s before I took control of this part of my life.

In what way has life been better without them? I've been considering quitting them as well and I'd love to hear.

  • I've reignited my love for cooking. I'm getting more exercise since I make a point of walking to the grocery store 3-4 times a week. Also means I'm cooking fresh foods. Partner and I have both lost weight without doing anything else.

  • Speaking purely for myself, and there are other factors, but enormous money savings and I've lost a bunch of weight. I took the force majeur approach of moving outside of delivery app range.

Mind giving more detail into how it went? Did first-party delivery options tend to exist and work well, or did you just adjust your expectations re: convenience?

  • We decided to completely rethink our eating. Started meal planning around basic staples like pasta and rice. Going to the store 3-4 times a week for fresh meat and produce. I cook lunch in big batches twice a week and hot pack individual portions in glass containers. Partner and I have both lost weight and gained energy while spending far less on food.

  • I've been delivery-app-free for several years, with the lone exception being when I'm sick and contagious. Restaurant food with delivery basically costs double where I live, and grocery delivery has always been hit-or-miss on the quality of things like produce.

Freak what you feel but delivery apps are just not worth it for me personally outside of those necessary contexts and I don't mind the inconvenience of picking up my own food.
