Oh, the horror! The digital pacifier does not work on this weird cheap phone

Normies don't understand the that any computer should be able to run software from any other computer. They dont get the idea of the general purpose computer. They've bought into the idea of computers-as-appliances sold by steve jobs and others.

The executives you're talking about don't see an issue with this. Their solution for this is the same as everything else: spend more money and buy another device. User freedom does not even enter the equation.

Yes, and it's even worse than that. Phone, tablet, TV box manufacturers now routinely lock the bootloader of the devices they make. This means that even if you are willing to sacrifice device attestion for the sake of freedom, you can't replace the firmware/OS, unless some exploit or other workaround is found. These corporations treat the device as a storefront from which to extract additional revenue and spy on their customers for their benefit. It's truly shocking, and Apple convinced normies that it's normal.

What gives you the right to determine how others should use their computing devices? Or should want to use their devices?

  • They can use it however they want. Similarly, technically advanced users should be extended the same courtesy. As it stands, devices like iphones and etc are build to exclusively cater to "appliance operator". This limits the technical user, whereas if they were left as general purpose devices, they could cater to both parties equally.

  • I need to warn you that your questions are not addressing any parts of the post you're replying to.

    • It does sort of..

If they identify as a normie or an appliance peddler who is offended by the tone suggesting computers "should" be general purpose?

Or they are offended by the implication that said normies are perhaps unable to understand this lost potential, rather than making principled choices to embrace the appliance shlock?
