Personally, I started with a Longines Moonphase watch and a Maurice Lacroix. The former is probably easier to find for $1000. I still think while way its over your budget the JLC moon phase are beautiful too

Awesome! Thank you. I also ran across a few companies that make a Valjoux 7768 Moonphase, also looks nice and seems within budget.
Yeah good movement and most watch makers know it. Servicing would also be a lot cheaper.
