Is it that we used to think computers would make things better, not in minor ways but in some sort of fundamental, paradigm-shifting, revolutionary way? And then you realise it's a bit like moving to a new town - you bring yourself with you. Humanity with computers is at least as messed up as humanity without computers.

A bit like how the invention of the vacuum cleaner didn't free people from housework. It just led to higher cleanliness standards, so that people have to do just as much housework as before.
