I think a local news publication could be done as a non profit with mostly volunteers. Kind of like an open source project.

There are enough people that enjoy sharing what’s going on and writing that it could be workable.

Maybe someone here could set up a sort of franchise that makes it easier for local communities to get set up.

(Idea for a ycombinator startup?)
