I had this experience making an iOS game. After a few years of making the game, I went back to it, and found that I was unable to get it to compile. I guess iOS games are very warm blooded. Perhaps if I had stuck with a desktop platform or web it would have remained fine? Not entirely sure.

Mobile in general is this way. For instance, on Android, if your app isn't targeting a high enough sdk version, Google will remove it after some time. If you have to upgrade your target sdk, you may find many libraries are broken (or not supported), and it also can lead to other cascades of upgrades, like having to upgrade gradle or the NDK if you use it.
