Wait, this may be a huge game changer. But only if websites no longer have to ask the user to install the app on the home screen (arcane) and then launch it, and enable notifications.

It says they still do. And I’m glad about that.
I'm definitely not glad about it.
They are doing it to make sure their apps still have an edge over websites.
I know that’s a popular sentiment here, but I honestly don’t think they give a shit.
This is 100% understandable to me as something to prevent random unknown websites from sending push notifications users don’t expect or know how to control from a site they accidentally visited weeks ago.
