Yes. We should have more protected bike lanes so that cyclists feel safe and aren’t incentivized to use sidewalks and pedestrian paths.

Also, being hit by an e-bike is liable to cause much less serious injury than being hit by an SUV or even a sedan. It doesn’t mean there’s no danger, but it’s fallacious to freak out over pedestrian safety wrt bikes while ignoring the much greater danger from cars and making excuses not to encourage mode switching from cars to cycling.

Agree with this. I ride an electric scooter. I got off the sidewalk because I didn't want to make pedestrians uncomfortable. I did ~250 miles on mine in an urban environment, then recently I was hit by a car while in a non-protected bike lane.

For escooters the safety tier is: - protected bike lanes (safest) - side walk - sharing low-speed roads (think riding in the middle of the lane on a 15-20mph road) - unprotected bike lane
