I recently used ChatGPT (o3) for a therapy-type question for the first time - how to deal with absolutely hating birthdays/other special days aimed at me like father's day. It gave some good pointers on how to handle it, it explained that I'm certainly not alone in feeling like that, etc.

I found it helpful, and it's not something I'd find a psychologist and schedule an appointment for. A lot of us need very occasional help, and I think LLMs are fitting a real niche there.

When it comes to practical advise or CBT, it feel like an LLM can be a useful tool. Mostly because we’re not asking new information or diagnosis out of it, but merely reassurance and practical advise based on a situation—it’s easy to understand if it’s on point or not.
