My doc has an automated one of the same make I have at home, most of the time it reads about the same as a manual reading. Either way current guidelines are you sit down for 5 minutes before you take a reading.

Does your automated one hurt? If not, that could indicate your device is an outlier.
You'd also be the first person I've come across that said their experience with an automated cuff didn't hurt. I figured that had to be a thing; I just hadn't run into it yet.
I've had two Omrons. I wouldn't say either hurts. It might be some people are more susceptible to pain from them that others.
