Pro tip: Use the command

    timedatectl list-timezones

to get a list of all timezones your debian based OS recognises.

For your convenience, here is a list for a Debian 13 box with 628 entries:

I wonder why Poland is separate, when there is Europe/Warsaw

  • Poland is another backwards compatibility alias in the backward file; which you will notice is also in Debian's other package, as of Debian 13.

    • As an Australian, I love that `Australia/Eucla` is there, with it's silly UTC+8.75.

      Some of the other Australian entries are bizarre though - 'North' and 'South'? There is no standard timezone across the whole north or south of the country. And Broken Hill is in NSW, so why are they different time zones?
