It is not always a question of whether something can be done but whether it should it be done. Everyone has different lines they set concerning behavior. At one time I thought the Amish were kind of weird for not using public grid electricity. Amish do not have anything against electricity - the Amish as a community assesses adoption of new technology from a perspective of how it influences their community. Money is not the only metric of success.

Instead of synthetic porn lets substitute cigarettes. Is it ok for people to sit in a public place and subject everyone to toxic gases. Collectively we in the US have decided to restrict smoking in public places. Or is it ok to provide a 14 year old Bourbon for breakfast. Most of would say no even though we would permit a 18 to do it if they want.

can > should, forever and always...freedom of choice. the question is values and actions you take that align with those values. also your example is moot...there is plenty of shit you and everyone else does everyday that's "bad" for you and you don't even realize or think about it.
