I don't know how to ask this, because I don't understand, and I don't know what I don't know about this kind of stuff: How does this compare to Buffett putting so much money into Google? It seems like people on the inside of technology are selling, but the people on the outside are buying.

Usually, but not always, investors buy something when the price is at a point where they believe the asset is undervalued. They sell when they believe the asset has reached its fair market value or is overvalued. I haven't followed Thiel closely enough but for sure this is what Buffett is doing. Assuming Thiel is doing the same then he believes NVidia is currently at fair market value or overvalued. I would agree with the latter.

If Google actually starts selling their TPU chips, that could potentially harm NVIDIA.

Why would Google sell TPUs if it can rent them?

Buffett business is not stock picking, he is bad at it, and made terrible under performing choices like Coca Cola, IBM and Wells Fargo. Its not where he makes his money.
