That is such a great analogy!
Another I heard is that measuring EEG is like standing outside a stadium during a match and listening to the roar of the crowd.
Reading thoughts through EEG is like standing outside the stadium, listening for the roar of the crowd, and based on what you hear, knowing what the umpire's mother-in-law had for breakfast.
