People are brainwashed into thinking a pickup truck is the only practical car even though it's the opposite. It's not just EPA regulations, it's what people want.

I live on the edge of the suburbs, where a fair number of people have pickup trucks who actually need them. I don't think they are that high a percentage of vehicles on the road.

A lot of folks who live closer to the city who drive the big monstrosities are looking to make a statement. That statement may make sense if you have a small contracting company, or plumbing, whatever.

But man, listen. My own father drove a cheap and small 4 cylinder pickup my whole childhood, and it did truck things much more admirably than the Cybertruck. (With the exception of winter driving - because of which he got the nickname from his deer hunting buddies of "ditch") They don't really make trucks like that anymore in the U.S. Teeny tiny pickup trucks can do truck things just fine, and the car companies are lying to you.

Meanwhile, the majority of SUV owners are not remotely taking advantage of the offroading and towing capabilities of their vehicles. Leading to SUV crossovers, which are more like SUV's built on car chassis', which as near as I can tell perform worse than either vehicle category.
