A major reason Facebook dominates is consolidated discovery, but open alternatives are definitely needed. We have been building Events Map to let users discover events from around the web using natural language search and interactive map pins that display a countdown of how many days are left.

I’m not that old but Partiful and other sites have completely consumed Facebook events for me for personal stuff
Fwiw I have never heard of facebook events
In Italy and Germany it is massively used. You can only find events there and nowhere else.
Since I don't own a FB account, I don't have access to the events information as well.
