I have this same affliction and have used ad-blockers for as long as I can remember. People seem to associate importance or quality with clutter. The more there is going on, the better it must be. My brain has just learned that certain page elements are never going to bring value and therefore don't exist.

Very rarely I'll come across a page where valuable information is hidden in those areas and it takes someone else showing me to actually see it.
