Go to a better movie theater and they don’t do that. Alamo Drafthouse movies have the old please keep quiet message, but if you show up 5 minutes late you’re missing part of the movie if they even let you in.
The closest Alamo to where I used to live in the USA is 2 states away. My choices were AMC, Regal, and Cinemark. And now that I moved, my choice is to either go to the only cinema around me (with ads), or try to fish something from the treacherous waters of the bay.
Part of this is baked into the experience though, if "ads" here are trailers for upcoming films. I don't know if theaters are now showing ads for products, I haven't been in forever.
I am willing to accept trailers but the split is closer to 25 minutes of random shit + 5 minutes trailers. Let's be generous and say that I'm misremembering & it's actually 20 + 10. That's still 20 minutes of ads that I'm paying to watch.
Theatres need a piece of the pie too :^)
I'm already buying their overpriced popcorn and soda!
Just take your seat 30mins later.
Personally if I had experienced that I would just take my business elsewhere. Companies will keep pushing boundaries like this if the worst outcome from them is that for some customers they won't be able to extract the additional profit.
Just tell me when the movie starts, not when the ads start.
There’s movie theaters that do that, Alimo is the chain near me which does.
by your account roughly 20-30mins in. You could also just sit there and read a book while you wait.
