That's one part of it. The author needs to make it engaging as well so you get to flow state easier.

There is a good book "The science of storytelling" (Will Storr) which points out the techniques used by famous stories. Those techniques allow the reader to be more invested in the story.

Dungeon Crawler Carl for example uses some of the techniques (intentional or not).
