For all that say Mistral is "at least something" for EU: where are the big EU-owned datacenters where we can run Chinese SOTA models safely, and labs that fork and quantize them on EU data? Wouldn't that be "more something"? Even if this method still depends on external resources short term, it's a money problem, and EU just loves pouring money on problems.

They try to build them, but for example in Finland where there's cheap electricity and lot of interest to build them, the people started protesting on rising electricity prices and now the politicians are noticing this.
Same in Denmark.
For our data centres we must go to the one place not yet corrupted by capitalism- space!
They will also be faster in space. Relatively. The data transmission might be the bottleneck then, but who knows - a rocket full of ssds might go a long way.
