> $1999 is ridiculous.

Plenty of people on HN earn that much money in a single day after tax.

That's about $675k/year, assuming a 35% tax rate. I think that is a small fraction of HN users, but more to the point, if your argument is that the phone is not expensive if you make over $500k/year, I'm not sure that is a compelling argument...

It's also more than the cost of an iPhone Pro + a MacBook Neo (or several other combinations).

I'm just not seeing the value proposition for a $2000 phone. I already can't comfortably hold or type single-handed on the normal-sized Pro.

  • I base many of my purchases on how many hours per week I use them.

In terms of usage hours, my mobile phone comes out near the top. This makes the price almost immaterial.

  • For most people this can replace an iPhone Pro, a MacBook Neo and their iPad.

For those people, $2000 is a good price for a device that does all their digital work.

  • The correct price comparison is between an iPhone Pro and an iPad Mini, in the US that would be $1199 + $599. So for an extra $200 you don't have to carry and charge 2 devices. Not a terrible pitch.

    • Sure, I guess, but I don't have a Mini, or any tablet for that matter. I used to and found the form factor didn't meet my needs. I'm happier with a phone and a laptop.
