The screens are made by Samsung, but aren't designed by Samsung. Samsung's display and their phone division are completely separate.
"designed" is doing a lot of heavy lifting here dude. They don't do any actual screen materials work at all. If by designed you mean specified they wanted rounded corners and a mat coating I'll grant you that, but they've got zero horse in the race in terms of flexible glass development.
