Reddit is kind of a cult. "Ditch your loved ones so you can spend more time on reddit telling people to ditch their loved ones."
The internet feels like one those shitty religious villages were everyone is gossiping.
That's just humans; now there's a lot more of us and we have advanced gossip technology.
