If you want to host a party you need to have friends who live close by, time and skill to organize it, some money for supplies and a place to do it. Last part is the most important.

Insane rent and mortgage rates means people live with their parents for longer. Last time I was at my friends home he could only do it when his parents were out on a business trip. It's just not possible to throw a real party with them in the house. And most parents spend more time at home than ever before.

And even if you get your own home you might have a strict landlord or the place just sucks because you can't afford to fix it up. A lot of people would get embarrassed/status anxiety if they had people come over so they just don't.
