I find that stuff that it offers over a normal Hyper-V VM is stuff that I don't need, leaky abstractions galore.

how about the usability? for me it's 1 step to wsl --import and ~5 steps to setup the disk, networking, instance etc in Hyper V.

auto mounting host disks in the guest is very nice.

Also, I prefer the .wslconfig parameters e.g. for kernel params, networking, memory + cpu caps. It's very convenient.

Well, you can use linux-tools on windows too. I kind of compiled most of LFS/BLFS on it, and it works. So it just gives you more options.
