How does one who doesn’t have an employer funding their massive token budgets become “good at AI” the way that Karpathy describes here?
I think the point is that this gap exists partially because of the access that a select few have today, which enables them to do things that the have-nots can’t fathom.
Sure, but is that different than in the past? Those who could afford computers got good with computers. Those who could afford cars learned to drive. etc., etc.
The difference is that this is out of reach for anyone not backed by a large corporation. We're not talking about a $100/mo claude sub, large scale projects at the cutting edge cost thousands per month in API tokens.
