The shared understanding gap will be closed as the initial benefactors of LLMs develop tools for the business that apply frontier models to their domain.
I have reached a point with a client where non-developers are beginning to experience the full power of modern reasoning models. Their product configuration tooling is now semi-automated and in many cases there is genuinely a 10-100x improvement in throughput. This isn't the worst bottleneck (that would still be the customers), but it's a really big one.
If non-developers in your personal and professional circles are still wondering what all the noise is about, it's possible you haven't been working very hard on adapting these tools to their problems.

There are, for two years already when OpenAI released o1-preview:
From wikipedia: "large language models that are trained to solve tasks that require several steps of reasoning. They tend to do better on logic, math, and programming tasks than standard LLMs, can revisit and revise earlier steps, make use of extra computations, and enhance performance when increasing the number of parameters, training examples, and training computations."
There are none. Claims and the truth can be different things, you know? See the research on that - all the "reasoning" is is just back-rationalization.
