My mx5 will happily sit at 150kph cruising, it's just a bit over 1000kg. At 200+ it feels like it's growing wings and about to take into the air. (motorsport)

Yes, when you feel the front end getting light it is time to call it a day. That's how the e-type got its reputation as an rich kid killer: they were so fast the front end would be lifted off the ground and that's a positive feedback loop.

MX5 is a great little car, you can carve your name with those.

  • Yep. I was competing in what's called VMAX - top speed racing - and it was really reaching the limits of aerodynamics at 230 and above. Other people using these cars end up building full aero for them however I pivoted to lower speed things with it.

I've been campaigning the car for about a decade though, fantastic machine.

    • Very cool. Be careful! I've had a 'Copen', that was the most fun I ever had in a car, it is even lighter than the MX5 (but not as light as a souped up classic Mini (the only real mini imho)).
