It's also a hub for Apple Home and a Thread border router. And it works with HomePods.

It's a barebones barely functioning hub with hardly any functionality (because HomeKit itself is barely more than that).

Thread border router is nice I guess.

Integration with HomePods is ... well, if you have HomePods.

So... No real functionality to justify the price.

  • Oh I'm not saying those things justify the price. I just listed some features apart from streaming apps.

I guess if you're not really quite deep in the Apple ecosystem, there's probably better options.

    • HomePods are probably the only thing from the Apple evosystem that I don't have.

That doesn't stop me from being realistic about AppleTV: it's a waste of a product. It's a veritable supercomputer in your living room whose only purpose is streaming. Literally everything else is a crippled afterthought.

That's why I was baffled by the original comment: "$300 might be a decent price if you use it for all of the things that it can do". It doesn't do a lot, does it?
