willful ignorance is a thing.

I think people get to a certain point, then make a decision and shut down.

In some cases this is ok, people resolve something in their mind and move on. In some cases, not so much.

Honestly I've made up my mind about a bunch of things. Like UFOs or homeopathy. I might be open if there was new evidence. I also qualify things - UFOs to me means aliens not from earth visiting with spaceships and quietly interacting with humans.
