It's pretty remarkable to see 'I don't like them, therefore their arguments are all terrible' in action, but it's so rampant in this comments section it's genuinely sad. Every single argument against rationalists can be leveraged at academic philosophers too.
Sign of the times.
"Back in my day", HN felt more signal than noise. Oh there was flaming and name calling, but there was a lot less of what you point out: simple outgroup dunking.
Yeah this was one of the stupidest comment sections I've read on this site in recent memory, and these days the commentary here is definitely not high-brow. Most of the comments were just "I don't like rationalists so they're stupid." I think there's plenty of very obvious, fertile critique one can make against rationalists but there's so little of that here in this comments section that it makes me quite sad.
