Doctors just have absolutely massive egos, because they suffered though a lot of staying up through the night during residency and difficult exams and whatnot and they also are king of their fiefdom now, and how dare you question their authority over life and death. Not all are like this, but many many.
My recent encounters agree with that. In most cases I wouldn't mind (sometimes it's even funny), but in case of terminal disease I would expect a tiny bit of restraint.
