Similarly, I got into software because I like working with computers and solving problems for others. I see TONS of similar sentiment where people are almost joyously exclaiming “Software is solved! Sorry!!! It’s been a long time coming, you all deserved it, get fucked!”

And I can’t imagine feeling the same about any group of people. It’s been odd, to me. I’m just trying to support myself and the people in my life, and now there’s a looming fear that I can’t do that anymore… business owners are drooling over that, and other sectors are laughing.

Hard times, I guess.

All my life, when I would think back to what mill towns went through when they all closed (something I did not live through), all my naive outsider brain could arrive at was, "Yeah, but those were just grunge jobs, humans were freed up to do better stuff."

And perhaps the same thing is now happening to me. It feels different, but maybe the same thing is true.

Tech workers are a small subset of the population that have been able to live very privileged lives when compared to everyone else.

I think the average person lives a much harder life and has been doing so for a while. Should we really be surprised by the lack of empathy when folks in tech had little to show for the common man this whole time?
