idk about permanent but my own custom harness runs as a daemon, which lets me close my terminal without it killing long running sessions.

Maybe there is another solution to this problem. Perhaps the problem itself is not new and has been thought of before.

Something like tmux, or screen. It works for everything, not just your harness.
