Jev is acting more sefless than a human would. A majority of human beings choose to save themselves and kill the other 5, if that's the choice. It's only when it's a choice between 1 stranger and 5 strangers that humans tend to save the 5 strangers. In experiments where they think it's real, most humans choose nothing.
