Thank you, that was really informative, I was totally mixing those two things. Perfect case of Cunningham's law.
The fact that kosher/halal are very similar is a hilarious wrinkle for the culture war aspect that OP was pushing.
I don't normally talk about downvotes but whomever downvoted the informative comment from amiga above should not have, it was very interesting, I learned from it, and as such it's in line with hacker news ideal.
