So, are we just going to ignore that the man is literally asking for YEARS of deposits aka free loans, for a car that literally might never come to fruition?

This is insanity. How are shareholders still supporting this man?

Coz the company is 1 trillion plus valuation. So your argument falls flat. I understand if customers are pissed, but not investors.

This is the guy who led a company to build and catch a flying 20 story building. Say anything else you want about the man (and there is a LOT to say) but he has a track record of achievements that no other human has ever come close to reaching.

Space lasers, man.

  • > he has a track record of achievements that no other human has ever come close to reaching.

Edward Jenner invented the smallpox vaccine. Smallpox killed 300 million in the 20th century alone and was eradicated in 1980.

Or maybe Norman Borlaug, who invented a kind of high yield wheat that is estimated to have saved a billion from starvation.

These certainly aren’t the kind of achievements Musk aims for (quite the opposite in fact) but I’d argue they have a far, far greater impact than anything he has even tried to do.

He’s got cooler demos though, I’ll grant you that.

  • He also has a track record of making promises that he never makes good on, or intends to make good on. In fact, almost all of the things you call achievements are things he did without making broad promises.

  • Elon is famously managed up by the point people at his companies. I don't really know how much credit you can give him besides having the bravado to greenlight stunts like this. Which, you know, cool -- it appeals to the 12 year old in all of us, which is about how mature he is.

  • > he has a track record of achievements that no other human has ever come close to reaching.

    Your obsequiousness is disgusting.

Might never come to fruition? Is there any chance at all that such a car would ever be street legal? Oh, wait the US govt is literally for sale nowadays, so hmm...maybe that's not an obstacle actually.

This is what we actually call a Ponzi scheme. It'll come crashing down, eventually, but will take a long time due to the current state of the DoJ.

  • Not even close. It is a supercar, the order number vs the Model 3’s and Y’s is a rounding error.

The Roadster is about marketing as racing is to every other car manufacturer.

They do not need the measly deposits for this car to sustain Tesla, not even close.

  • > This is what we actually call a Ponzi scheme

I don't see how a Ponzi scheme involving paying to reserve a future product is even possible. One of us does not understand what "Ponzi scheme" means.

  • Then it’s not really a Ponzi scheme. Those crash under their own weight pretty quickly. Not just because of govt intervention.
