I've been on HN for just over ten years now and have never been banned despite participating in all sorts of controversial discussions. HN is actually a pretty good free speech benchmark.

Have you been limited to posting maximum 5 comments in any 4 hour span, while people arguing against you have unlimited comments?
Yes. I actually emailed dang about it. He explained his reasons and I agreed with him. I was very prone to getting into arguments about stuff like copyright.
The restriction just went away at some point.
