Simplest way for my Mom to keep track of what her extended family is up to and communicate with them. Changing would require all of them moving to a different platform.

I’d be highly skeptical that more than 2% of the posts Mom sees are by her family or friends. Ads, posts by strangers, groups I’m in - those are 90% of what the algorithm serves on the main feed.
Of course, but there’s still no alternative platform to stay in touch with friends and family.
