Surprising that this sort of vuln can exist for DECADES. Perhaps software really is too complex for all its behaviours to be outwardly visible. Many student-run services are down right now, even the lunch menu website is going down for maintenance.
I mean we do have examples of how to try to make actually proven and secure software (of course still not absolute), but this is simply deemed to expensive. It's basically the same for every other big problem. We do have examples how to not consume as much resources, as we do now, or how to not shoot explosives at each other. We simply do not want to do it, collectively speaking.
