25B is not a small fine. Finally an amount that should make them think twice their harming decisions

The problem is that it's not a fine for the directors, it's a fine for the company itself.

It won't trickle down to the directors' salaries, so then there's no reason for them to act any differently in future.

Directors of companies should be personally financially liable for these types of penalties.

When the appeals reach the Supreme Court, if the S.C. should rule against Meta, Zuck will probably remember "wait a minute, I wiped my ass with $25B this morning, I'll just pay the fine, who cares."

You're being sarcastic, right? Right? It's a 1.5 trillion dollar company [1], how would this amount even be relevant compared to the profits they made from their behavior.

  • Maybe the $25B isn't guaranteed and doesn't seriously harm them on its own, but if the legal landscape shifts enough to make fines of this scale more common than the usual dozens-to-hundreds of millions, then it starts to impact their bottom line.

They don't care.

Meta can take the hit by either selling stock, laying of more employees or both to cover that cost.

  • Or they can put thick mitts on Zuckerberg's hands for a couple of years so he can't sign any checks.
