Countries are free to join whatever alliance they want
If Russia is scared or insecure, that's on them, not a valid reason to murder others, NATO is a defensive pact
Listen to what Putin says in Russian, the war is about Making Russia Great Again, a conquest of empire. He miscalculated and Russia is in the worst place it has been since the fall of the USSR. Their future does not look bright either.
Well I can agree to the principal that countries should be free to join whatever alliance they want.
