Exactly, VCRs should be banned -- why should cable companies tailor to you how they do business, and be forced to allow you to plug in anything into their distribution network? Only approved TVs should be an option.
I mean, I wouldn't be surprised if Walmart's Onn brand had the audacity to release a port-less smart TV and discount it even more since that would be guaranteed data collection / ad sales.
Hopefully people are educated about that fact before they purchase said TV, though.
