The point of the article was to focus on the predictability of the HN user base as a whole, not that it would be a plausible outcome.
You obviously misinterpreted the author's intentions and you missed:
* The fact that it wasn't made to make you laugh
* Why do we laugh, what makes things funny?
* What is laughter, really?
(tongue in cheek, of course)
